Timsbury Comets
A new way to play football — designed for neurodivergent children
Timsbury Comets is a new, inclusive football programme from Timsbury Athletic Youth FC, created especially for neurodivergent children aged 5–11.
Our goal is simple — to offer a fun, understanding and supportive space where children can enjoy football in a way that suits them best. Every session focuses on enjoyment, confidence and belonging.
We’re proud to be running Comets in partnership with Nova Sports, a specialist coaching organisation with extensive experience supporting disabled and neurodivergent children through sport. Together, we’re creating sessions that are welcoming, adaptable and designed around each child’s individual needs.
Two parts to every session
To make sure every child feels comfortable and engaged, we’ve designed the sessions with two flexible zones:
Free Play Zone – A relaxed area where children can come and play at their own pace. No pressure, no set drills — just fun, friendship and freedom.
Structured Games Zone – For those who’d like to experience more teamwork and match play. This part of the session adds gentle structure and small-sided games and we’re planning to join a neurodivergent-friendly league where children can enjoy matches once a month against other inclusive teams.
Children are free to choose which zone suits them best — and they can switch at any time. What feels right one week might be different the next and that’s absolutely fine.
Every child is supported to take part in the way that works for them.
A Safe Space for Disabled Children to Play Football
Timsbury Comets is a safe and welcoming space where disabled children can play football, make friends, and truly be themselves.
Created specifically for neurodivergent children, with understanding coaches and a calm, supportive environment.
Delivered in partnership with Nova Sports, experts in inclusive coaching.
Led by FA-qualified coaches who tailor sessions to each child’s needs.
Two-part structure gives every child the freedom to play how they choose — relaxed or structured.
Monthly friendly matches (for those who want them) build confidence, teamwork and pride.
Less restricting group sizes allow children to feel comfortable, supported and free to express themselves.
Community pricing: just £3 per session to keep football accessible for every family.
The Benefits of Football for Disabled and Neurodiverse Children
Football offers so much more than physical activity — it’s a powerful way for children to build confidence, social skills and a sense of belonging.
For disabled and neurodiverse children, playing in a supportive environment like Comets creates opportunities to connect, communicate and express themselves freely through movement and play.

Inclusive Play for All Abilities
At Timsbury Comets, the focus is on fun, imagination and inclusion.
Every session encourages children to explore what they can do, helping develop coordination, balance and teamwork skills in a way that feels natural and fun.
Through football, children also experience the simple but important joy of being part of something bigger.
Comets sessions celebrate individuality; where every child is valued, supported and free to just be themselves. It’s about making friends, sharing smiles, and discovering confidence both on and off the pitch.
For many young players, the benefits reach far beyond football — nurturing self-esteem, emotional wellbeing and a lifelong love for staying active.
